The second journey this year will take us to the Southern Alps for three days. First we will visit a few locations in Carinthia, in Southern Austria, where we were able to get some very fine pictures two years ago with Jenni and Elena. However, in contrast to our expedition in 2007, on this occasion we will not be staying within the borders of Austria; we will divide the time more or less equally between Austria and South Tyrol.
For a long time South Tyrol was part of Austria, and only in 1918 was it transferred to Italy, forming the northernmost province of that country today. Even today most of the people there speak German - like in Austria -, and in cultural terms it still has stronger connections to Austria than to Italy. I know some very beautiful locations in both countries - most of which are relics of the rich history of the region, ranging from wooden watermills to ruined mediaeval fortresses.
Since the journey itself isn't very long for most people involved, we won’t need to fly; we can cover the whole distance by car. Two models have been booked, Arielle and Carla, and a make-up artist, Marie. However, this time my team will be bigger than usual, because Arielle suggested her husband Andrej could come along. He is placing his car at my disposal, and he'll be our driver for the whole journey. At the same time he’ll be taking a few photographs of Arielle for their own website, Ariel’s Blog.
