Sardinia has proved itself as a destination for my trips on more than one occasion. So I have chosen this large Italian Mediterranean island for our fourth and final journey this year, too. We should still have favorable weather in the middle of September, while on the other hand there won't be too many tourists around at that time of year.
Since I have already worked on Sardinia three times - in 2004, 2006 and 2008 - I am very familiar with the island and the special places that have the right conditions for our work. Consequently I can rely predominantly on locations that have already been tried and tested. The sparsely populated southwest of the island in particular, with its wide variety of landscapes, has shown itself to be suitable, so this time too we'll be staying in that region.
But it's always good to try something new. It's now seven years since I last went to Sardinia to find locations, and in the meantime I've obtained some new information about places that might be of interest for us, places I haven't seen before. So I'm going to go there three days earlier, and carry out a new location search before the real work with the girls begins. I am particularly interested in ruins that once housed mines and related activities; mining was once pursued very intensively on Sardinia and has left behind a large numbers of relics. On our last journeys here we already worked in some of the abandonment mining facilities. But there are a lot more of them, and this time I'd really like to include a few of these on our schedule!
Three working days have been planned, as usual with two models and a makeup artist. This time Carina will be responsible for the makeup, and she'll also be assisting me. She came along when we went to the Canary Islands in April 2008, as a model. In the meantime she has started working as a makeup artist, and since I am convinced by her work, I have asked her to handle the makeup for this journey. Helen and Nathalie have been booked as the models. Nathalie was originally supposed to join us in June last year on our trip to Corsica, but she cancelled just a few days beforehand. I thought it was only fair to give her a second chance by inviting her to come along to Sardinia. Naturally, at the time I had no idea that she would end up disappointing me far more this time!
