Terenten Mills

In olden times the village of Terenten in South Tyrol could only be reached with difficulty, and consequently - as was the case with most mountain villages - the people had to be self-sufficient. Many of the agricultural products they used, along with other goods, were produced with the help of water-driven mills.

Along the River Terner, which flows down a hill to the north of the village, a series of these mills have been restored in order to illustrate the kind of technology employed before the Industrial Revolution. A path has been constructed, leading up from the village and linking the mills, while also providing information about their functions. A total of seven mills are located along this path, the most beautiful at the top. If you're feeling lazy you can avoid the climb; by taking the road that leads up to Sonnbergalm you can drive close to the top of the mills and save yourself the tiring walk up from the village!
