The place with the Sardinian name "S'Ortu Mannu" is a grove of olive trees. Naturally olive trees aren't out of the ordinary on Sardinia, but
this little grove is nevertheless interesting because the trees here are incredibly old, dating back several centuries at least. Olive trees
don't grow to a very great height, and when they get older they tend to spread out more; these very old examples have spectacularly wide and
completely overgrown trunks. The largest of the trees, known as Sa Reina - "the Queen" - is said to be over a thousand years old, making it the
most ancient olive tree in the entire Mediterranean area! Although I have to admit I'm not sure whether this is a scientifically proven fact or
just a proud tradition.
