Costa Verde means "green coast" and is the term used for one section of the coastline in the south-west of Sardinia. Long sandy beaches
virtually untouched by tourism make this area an exceptionally interesting destination for anyone who enjoys exploring when on holiday.
But this place has not always been devoted to fun and relaxation: there used to be a small port at the mouth of the Riu Piscinas where ore
deposits from nearby mines where loaded onto ships. Now only the sparse remains of the loading facility recall those days. Some of the port
buildings have been converted into a luxurious and very stylish hotel, the Le Dune.
The road leading here was only resurfaced a few years ago; before that it was a dusty, potholed track which could hardly be navigated by
normal vehicles. Since then the location of the hotel has become not quite so exclusively remote. In addition to the broad, endless beach some
beautiful, very high and extensive sand dunes constitute the particular attraction of this place.
