In the town of Bol, the tourist centre of Brac Island, there is a Dominican monastery which traces its origins back to the 15th century; to this day a small number of monks still live there.
The ruins we visited are just a few kilometres away, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the coast, and are certainly connected in some way with the monastery at Bol. Presumably this was some sort of hermitage associated with the main monastery. However, I wasn't able to find any more precise information about it - which is curious, since there are a number of buildings here which form an impressive sight, and the architecture is quite striking. The church is built into a rocky cave in spectacular fashion, and - judging by the architecture of the facade and the altar - would seem to date back to the 18th century. However, it seems that the buildings were abandoned about a hundred years ago, as they are now in a very advanced state of decay.
