Forge Hammer in Western Carinthia

The journey(s):

I don't want to give away the precise whereabouts of some locations - and this is one of them. I sincerely hope you will understand!

This valley in Western Carinthia is also known as the "Valley of the Hundred Mills", though this is quite an understatement: there were definitely 196 mills in this valley and quite possibly even more.

This particular mill, which has been owned by the same family for 16 generations, used water power to operate forge hammers. The forge is still functioning, though it is only used for presentations.

We visited this location on 27.7.2007 at 10:30 a.m. and on 13.8.2009 at 10:30 a.m.
