Some way to the south of Timanfaya National Park on Lanzarote there is an extraordinarily interesting section of coast: a bizarre volcanic landscape created by the great eruptions of 1730-1736 stretches from the village of El Golfo as far as the Salinas de Janubio. There are also several of the black beaches here which Lanzarote is famous for.

The Playa de Montana Bermeja, named after a small volcano nearby, is particularly attractive, because in addition to the pretty beach there is also a green lagoon, complete with very fine rock formations extending right down to the water.
